The Helping Hands organization works to provide emergency aid to the individuals and families around the South Strand South Carolina area. The organization primarily provides emergency clothing, food, and financial assistance for basic needs.

As a volunteer with the Freedom Readers Joe and Martin partner work to improve reading skills in low-income communities. The Freedom Readers also provide one-to-one literacy tutors, free books for home libraries, and other learning activities in a high-energy environment.
